About Me

Gregory RizzoloI specialize in individual and couples therapy for anxiety, depression, loss, irritability, low self-esteem, difficulties in physical and emotional intimacy, parenting, divorce, academic problems (e.g. writer's block, loss of initiative), and problems at work (e.g. dissatisfaction, tensions with colleagues).

I completed a B.A in classical studies at the University of Chicago with a focus on Latin and Greek poetry.   I trained for my M.A. in counseling psychology at the Family Institute at Northwestern University and am certified by the National Board for Certified Counselors.  I completed three years of post-graduate supervised work at the Chicago Institute for Psychoanalysis and am now in full time private practice.  I am licensed as an L.C.P.C. (Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor).

I am a faculty member in the MA and PhD programs at the Institute for Clinical Social Work and am the assistant director at the Chicago Center for Contemporary Psychotherapy.  I am also an advanced candidate in psychoanalytic training at the Chicago Institute for Psychoanalysis.  This post-graduate program integrates coursework on theory with intensive clinical training and culminates in certification as a psychoanalyst.

I have published articles in Psychoanalytic Psychology, the Journal of the American Psychoanalytic Association and the Routledge Series Psychoanalysis in a New Key.
